Whilst Africa is one of the most beautiful continents, with sights and sounds to amaze, and some of the most cheerful and friendly people you are likely to come across to welcome you on your travels, it is still a place suffering from great poverty, lack of education, and the necessary resources to beat these huge hurdles. The following tale has a lesson in itself, and reminds us that we have a part to play in creating a stronger Africa for future generations to enjoy:
The above is an amazing story if one is to consider this was a white ‘umfaan’ or boy who befriended one of the most powerful men ever to have walked the African continent. Shaka, often referred to as the ‘Black Napoleon’ for his military brilliance, a man who sentenced to death offenders of his rule with no mercy, and had them killed on “execution hill” (which was positioned within a stones throw of the Royal residence), saw through colour and the Zulu fear of European’s as sorcerers and their “mthakathi” or witchcraft , and embraced this young man and welcomed him into his world.
‘Ubuntu’ is an ancient African word, meaning “humanity to others”. Ubuntu also means “I am what I am because of who we all are”. In a country and on a continent that has seen so much pain, destruction and conflict the story of this friendship between King Shaka and John Ross illustrates that it is respect for each other, and respect for other cultures, that is required to help rebuild Africa and heal her wounds. We all need to come together, to work together, towards creating a place that is ‘heaven on earth’ in all respects.
ZuluSky supports every effort to build a democratic Africa, an educated Africa, where all persons, men and women of all races, from the newborn to the aged, feel safe, respected and happy.
