Description

A truly authentic Southern African (cultural) experience that highlights the remarkable landscapes, colourful history, intriguing people and raw wilderness of this celebrated corner of Africa, and the rise and rise of the ‘Rainbow Nation’ and neighbouring Mozambique.

This exploration starts in Cape Town, the ‘Mother City’, considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Apart from the sights and sounds that make this South Africa’s premier travel destination, travellers are exposed to the painful ‘Apartheid’ years through a visit to the political island prison of Robben Island, the District Six Museum as well as a number of “townships” or informal settlements located in and around the city - generally impoverished communities where, contrary to first impressions, you will find the vibrant, beating heart of a nation and a genuinely warm welcome. Journey into the ‘Cape Winelands’ to explore a selection of the region’s most notable wine farms, as well as across to Hermanus and what is considered one of the best land-based Whale viewing destinations in the world (seasonal: July through to November).

Moving north via the coastal city of Durban to Eshowe, KwaZulu-Natal, the gateway to the historic region of ‘Zululand’, here one is immersed into the rich Zulu culture; visit a ‘Sangoma’ or a traditional healer to learn more of the customs of the people, enjoying tastings of Zulu “tswala” (beer) and learn of other local ‘delicacies’, have the rare opportunity to be part of a traditional Zulu ceremony, as well as visit schools and community upliftment projects.

The final leg is spent within the world-renown Kruger National Park “on safari”, with the opportunity to see the famed ‘Big 5’, and includes a day trip into Mozambique and the capital of Maputo – where one is exposed to wonderful African street markets, and a delightful seafood lunch overlooking the tropical Indian Ocean. There is also the option of exploring the Panorama Route including ‘God’s Window’, as well as a moving, soulful Elephant interaction experience.

Extra

Please note trips to Robben Island are weather dependant. The Whale experience in Hermanus is seasonal (available July to November annually). The Zululand experience is very dependent on events and happenings at time of stay, and enlightening as to the challenges facing rural African communities. This is a package itinerary. Children under the age of 12 years will need to be on a private safari vehicle with regards the bush experience.
